Kirk Session
The court upon whose shoulders lies the responsibility for the spiritual oversight of the parish is the Kirk Session. There is a Kirk Session in every parish in Scotland.
The Kirk Session is made up of a minister and elders. The minister acts as moderator and in his absence, the elders can only meet unofficially and cannot constitute themselves as a Kirk Session. The number of elders is decided by the Session. To be eligible, you must be in full communion with the church and must be at least 21 years of age.
In Kilbarchan East, at the present time, we have 42 elders, 20 male, 22 female.
As we are at the moment without a minister the Rev. Kenneth Gray, of Freeland Church, Bridge of Weir, has been appointed Interim Moderator.
A list of which elders visit which organisations can be found HERE.
The next Session meeting is on Tuesday 1st May at 7.30pm in the hall.
Congregational Board
The Congregational Board is responsible for the church finances and property - i.e. the church, hall and manse. There are 32 members and they meet on the first Tuesday of every second month. Members are elected to the Board at the Annual Stated Business Meeting of the church with approximately half from the Session and half from the congregation. A team of members is on duty every Sunday to welcome people to church and all members are allocated a delivery district, through which most correspondence reaches the congregation.
